PUBLIC NOTICE Request for Proposals: Archeological Survey - North Tahoe Fire The North Tahoe Fire Protection District is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to conduct a comprehensive archaeological survey on 292.3 acres of private and utility owned parcels in the North Tahoe area between Carnelian Bay and Homewood, CA. The project will take place in eight separate areas and a map can be provided to interested parties. The goal is to identify, record, and evaluate any cultural, archaeological, or historic resources within the project areas and propose protection measures for an upcoming fuels reduction project. This project requires compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Scope of Work: * > Conduct a full Class III archaeological survey. * > Review relevant records, including the California Historical Resources > Information System (CHRIS). * > Consult with Native American tribes (as required). * > Prepare a comprehensive report detailing findings, significance > evaluations, and recommended mitigation measures. This report > must meet the standards for submission to the State Historic > Preservation Office (SHPO) and the lead agency for CEQA compliance. * > Provide detailed maps and GIS shapefiles. > Consultant Qualifications: * > Principal Investigator must meet the Secretary of the Interior's > Professional Qualifications Standards for archaeology, and carry the > appropriate insurance. * > Demonstrated experience conducting archaeological surveys in forested > environments, complying with Section 106 and CEQA. * > Familiarity with California archaeological resources and relevant laws. * > Strong background in working with Native American tribes in California.
